Links of a lifetime
This might be the best link of all time... Bob Dylan does Dr. Seuss (approximately).

And if this isn't your cup of tea, I humbly offer the answer to the Christian "right's" obsession with the few Old Testament condemnations of homosexuality.

what the hell? oh yeah and, what the hell??
hey, if we lived according to leviticus, we girls should pitch a tent for that "special" time of the month...we are unclean!
oh and uh, shave our heads!
love the god hates shimp site!
So, I ask you Christians sincerely: Why are these ridiculous laws still in the Bible? This is an important question, particularly with the portions of the Bible that Christians NEVER followed. I am puzzeled and not trying to pick here. What is the theological explination for God changing the laws?
god saw that people were utterly incapable of following the law...
floods, plagues of locusts, and other products of god's wrath did not deter mankind from sinning against his laws... (as we well know, capital punishment is not a deterent)
the sodoms and gammorahs of the world continued to flourish...
god decided to enter into a new covenant with mankind abolishing the old laws...
out with the old testament, in with the new
p.s.
the laws to which you refer are in the old testament... they remain in the bible to frame the historical background for the new testament...
this is where many fundamental christians "go wrong" when they lean "right" because most of their "righteousness" (in my humble and ill-informed opinion) stems from the old testament...
they seem to forget that god no longer requires blood sacrifices because no sacrifice that humankind can offer can ever compare to the sacrifice that was made on the cross
Very educational. Thank you.
IT is fascinating that, as you point out, the religious wrong out there cherry-pick the old testament when it suits their political agenda. My favorite case of this recently was the Sunday-School teacher in Watertown, NY who was fired because they found a verse in the Bible that said women should not have authority over or teach men.
In the modern day such obsession with minutia reduces divinity to some sort of cosmic bureaucrat. They see heaven as the line at the DMV.
Again, thanks for the info, Mamma Bear.
np, sane one!
