Swamp wisdom

Often the deepest insights comes to us in dreams.

Last night I had such a dream.

Imagine “Animal House” meets “Night of the Living Dead.”

It all started out at a big college. Bluto (John Belushi) and company are up to their usual hi-jinks. The pranks are driving the dean absolutely crazy, and the whole fraternity is on the brink of expulsion.

Then comes the final, greatest prank of them all: Bluto puts a giant vampire frog into a cabinet in the biology lab. This thing is the size of a bed pillow, with glowing red eyes and long retractable fangs.

The prank is a hit. The biology professor is scared out of his wits, the girls scream and the good guys all have a good laugh.

The frog spreads vampirism throughout the campus. At first, this is not much of a problem. Bluto is a vampire, D-Day is a vampire… they grouse a little about having to go to sleep during the day, but it is not a big deal. They occasionally feed from a co-ed, and at the end of they day they have themselves buried in the mud by pledges.

Then things start to get strange.

The population of vampires grows out of control. There are only a few humans left, and we have to destroy the vampire’s hiding places during the day so we can survive the coming night. We smash a great number of the stone markers that protect the vampires, but we can’t get all of them. Among my compatriots Anna Nicole Smith is killed horribly by vampires… then I woke up.

I think the lessons here are clear.

last night I had 2/3 of a pound of raw badger liver, a spinach salad and a cup of coffee spiked with a shot of mentholmint schnapps.

But, this is what you comment on? No comments on the importance of the Jungian images I was experiencing?

How odd.

i have to admit, i did start to write, but erased that part of my comment. perhaps its her amazing phoniness that is able to penetrate vampires. altho, she may be one in disguise. lemme think on this.

jungian theory:

architypes:
hero: the sane one
monster: vampires (general)
sacrifice: anna nicole smith

the mask: belushi and the frog thing.

mandala: belushi

your dream is carl jung's theory to a "T."

however, you must adjunct all of this with a prevailent feeling. were you feeling scared? out of control? heroic? or just bewildered?

this prevailing feeling is the key to analyzing your dream. collective conciousness aside, we all have strange dreams. this may perhaps just been your mind entertaining you. ( you know, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar theory)

i would hate to think of anna nicole smith as your mother achetype! she makes a much better sacrifice. one less of her type in the world is a relief!!!

sheesh... and here i thought anna nicole smith was the monster vampire ... no way is she the mother archetype... unless she's the evil step-mother, and even that is being way too kind

Wow, you really ran with this, so I owe you more explanation.

Through most of the dream the prevailing feeling is amusement. The pranks are funny until the vampire frog comes along and it all starts to go wrong. When the vampires start to take over it is more of an annoyance than terror.

Then there is the sudden turn to fear as we do the calculations about how many vampires there are. Until that point, all the killing of humans by vampires was irratating, but not scary.

There is the sudden realization that this could be it for humanity.

Then it starts getting scary.

I only recall Anna Nicole being in the dream for a matter of moments. She is trying to swing a sledgehammer and a nasty looking vampire bites her and mauls her body.

The fear really sets in then as I notice that the rest of the vampires that we didn't kill begin to emerge, and I know I am next. The rest of the anonymous humans (of which there about half a dozen) are also in varying levels of terror/immonent death.

I hope this helps, doctors.
